Benedict XVI Visited By New Cardinals

Following the Consistory, Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI was visited by the five new Cardinals created on Wednesday, June 28, 2017 by Pope Francis.

After leaving the Vatican Basilica, they went together with Pope Francis to the ” Mater Ecclesiae”  Monastery in the Vatican Gardens, where Joseph Ratzinger lives.

The five new members of the College of Cardinals are: Archbishop Jean Zerbo of Bamako, Mali; Archbishop Juan Jose Omella of Barcelona, Spain; Bishop Anders Arborelius, OCD (Discalced Carmelite) of Stockholm, Sweden; Monsignor Louis-Marie Ling Mangkhanekhoun, Apostolic Vicar of Pakse, Laos and Auxiliary Bishop Gregorio Rosa Chavez of the Archdiocese of San Salvador, El Salvador.

After the meeting with the Pope Emeritus, the new cardinals went to Paul VI Hall for the traditional ” courtesy visits”  with parents, friends and acquaintances.

The new cardinals created in the consistory of Nov. 19, 2016 had also went to visit the Pope Emeritus.
