Pope Francis has appealed for the release of the bishops, priests, and religious who were kidnapped and are being held hostage in Syria.
During his Regina Caeli address yesterday at noon to the faithful in St. Peter’s Square, the Pope prayed, ‘May the merciful God touch the heart of the kidnappers.’
On April 22, 2013, while traveling together, the Greek and Syrian Orthodox archbishops of Syria’s largest city of Aleppo were kidnapped, along with other religious.
Moreover, during yesterday’s address following the Jubilee Mass he celebrated for young people, the Argentine Pontiff recalled young martyrs killed during the Spanish Civil War who were beatified on Saturday in Burgos, Spain.
