The hopes of Pakistan”s religious minorities for greater recognition in civil life
have risen, following the statements of Pakistan”s Prime Minister Imran Khan,
leader of Pakistan”s Tehreek-e-Insaf (Movement for Justice), winning party in
the general elections of 25 July. The political leader publicly announced hisdesire to follow the legacy of Mohammad Ali Jinnah, considered the founding father of Pakistan, guaranteeing to all citizens, including those belonging to religious minority groups, the enjoyment of the same rights to freedom,
equality and justice.
Father Qaisar Feroz, Executive Secretary
of the Catholic Communications Commission in the Catholic Episcopal Conference
in Pakistan, expressed his satisfaction to Agenzia Fides information service: “If
Imran Khan manages to do it, there will be a big change in the history of Pakistan and it will be a success of his government”. He added, further, “And if Imran Khan names the right people for government ministries, it will
surely be a big step forward”.
