
The Holy Father has appointed as bishop of San Cristabal de Las Casas, Mexico, Bishop Rodrigo Aguilar MartÃnez, currently bishop of Tehuacin. He succeeds Bishop Felipe Arizmendi Esquivel.
Bishop Rodrigo Aguilar MartÃnez
Bishop Rodrigo Aguilar MartÃnez was born on March 13, 1952 in Valle Santiago, diocese of Irapueto. He completed his ecclesiastical studies in the seminary of the archdiocese of Morelia. He was ordained a priest and incardinated in Morelia. He then obtained a licentiate in science of education at the Pontifical Salesian University, Rome.
During his priestly ministry he has held the following offices: secretary to the archbishop of Morelia, formator in the seminary, secretary of the presbyterial council, rector of the St. Joseph Shrine, spiritual director of seminarians in philosophy and assistant of “Encuentros Matrimoniales“.
He was appointed as first bishop of Matehuala on May 28, 1997, and received episcopal ordination the following July 31. On January 28, 2006 he transferred to the see of Tehuacán.
Within the Mexican Episcopal Conference he is president of the Commission of Family, Life, Youth and the Laity.
Appointment of bishop of San Pedro de Macors, Dominican Republic
The Holy Father appointed as bishop of San Pedro de Macors, Dominican Republic, Msgr. Santiago Rodreguez Rodreguez, of the clergy of the diocese of Puerto Plata, currently episcopal vicar for pastoral ministry and pastor of the parish of “San Marcos”.
Msgr. Santiago Rodreguez Rodraguez
H.E. Msgr. Santiago RodrEguez Rodreguez was born on May 25, 1968 in Mamey, Los Hidalgos, diocese of Puerto Plata. In 1985 he entered the national major seminary of Santo Domingo, where he received his basic formation, until his priestly ordination for the diocese of Puerto Plata on June 24, 2000.
He holds a licentiate in moral theology from the Alphonsianum Academy in Rome and a master”s degree in bioethics from the PontificalRegina Athenaeum, as well as higher diplomas from pastoral institutes in Colombia and the Dominican Republic.
He has held the following offices, among others: seminary lecturer and formator (2001-2014); university chaplain (2000-2007); and diocesan pastoral head for the family and life (2000-2007 and 2010-2014). He is currently episcopal vicar for pastoral ministry (since 2014); pastor of the parish of “San Marcos” (since 2012); judge of the ecclesiastical tribunal (since 2009); military chaplain (since 2007), and professor of bioethics at the Pontifical Catholic University “Madre y Maestra“ in Santo Domingo (since 2001).
