Pope Says He Is Spiritually Close To Mexican Quake Victims And Those Effected By Irma

Pope Francis says he is spiritually close to and praying for those suffering from the effects of the severe earthquake that struck Mexico and of dramatic Hurricane Irma.

During his five-day Apostolic Visit to Colombia, the Holy Father expressed his concern at the end of the Beatification Mass on Sept. 8, 2017, for a martyred priest and bishop in Villavicencio.

“Right now,” the first Pope from the Americas said, “I wish to show my spiritual closeness to all those who suffer the consequences of the earthquake that struck Mexico last night, causing deaths and massive material damage.”

He assured his prayers for those who have lost their lives and for their families.

“In addition,” Francis continued, “I closely follow the development of Hurricane Irma that is hitting the Caribbean area, leaving behind numerous victims and massive material damage as well as causing thousands of displaced people.”

“I bring them into my heart and pray for them.”

The Pope asked those present to join him in praying for these intentions, and reminded them to pray for him.
