The Pope”s message to young people preparing for the 34th World Youth Day which will be held in Panama on 22-27 January 2019, has as its theme Mary”s response to God”s call: “I am the servant of the Lord. May it be done to me according to your word” (Lk 1:38).The text of the message was released on the day of the Feast ofthe Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary and ends a series of three Marian messages dedicated to young people on route between WYD 2016 and WYD 2019.
For the first time, the Holy Father”s message was released predominantly as a video, in an effort to reach as many young people as possible and to respond to their desire which they expressed at the recent Synod, to communicate with the Church via methods that are closer to their lingo.
In his own words in the video, the Pontiff addresses all young people in the world, believers and non believers alike, encouraging them to discover the values that are distinctive of youth. He recognizes their willingness to place themselves at the service of others and invites them to put into practice this aptitude in the Christian perspective: “To be at the service of others does not only mean to be ready for action. It means also to be in conversation with God with an attitude of listening, just like Mary. She listened to what the angel said to her and then she responded”, the Pope says.
The video message is an instrument to help spiritually prepare for the next WYD in Panama and to inspire youth pastoral the world over.
