“The Gospel of the Family: Joy for the
World”: is the theme for the ninth World Meeting of Families, which will be
held from 22 to 26 August 2018 in
Dublin, was presented on Tuesday 24 May, in the Holy See Press Office by
Archbishops Vincenzo Paglia, President of the Pontifical Council for Families,
and Diarmuid Martin, Ordinary of the Irish Capital.
The
Italian prelate made note of the fact that this will be “the first large
gathering for families after the Synod of Bishops and the publication of
Francis Apostolic Exhortation Amoris Laetitia which followed,” and has
become, so to speak, the “magna carta”. This, he added, “requires not merely an
updated approach in the pastoral care of families, but a new way of living in
the Church and realizing that love that renders life a joy”. Archbishop Paglia
also stressed the significance of how this meeting, which follows that in
Philadelphia 2015, returns to the old continent, which seems “to be resigned to
its own infertility”.
Archbishop Martin said: “The meeting will be a significant event for
the Church in Ireland and for Irish families. Ireland “ despite what many think
“ has a strong family culture. That said, Ireland is a very open country and is
open to all the pressures of Western secular culture regarding marriage and the
family.”
“After World Youth Day in Krakow this July,”
the Archbishop of Dublin concluded, “the
World Meeting of Families in Dublin in 2018 will be the next great global event
in the calendar of the Universal Church. The Catholic Church in Ireland is
blessed to have been chosen to host, for the first time, this special
faith-filled event for families”.
